Research and Development

The strategy of growth and development of a company is built along two main lines:

Intensive Computing & GIS

In 2008, Geo-Hyd initiated a program of research and development baptized eXtenGIS with (LIFO) the Orleans Laboratory of Computer Science and (ISTO) the Orleans-Tours Institute of Earth Sciences.

This program aims to install an Intensive GIS computing platform dedicated to the study of water resources. This platform is a practical response to the growing difficulties encountered during geographic processing because information is increasingly more precise and therefore more and more voluminous.

eXtenGIS will therefore fully exploit the data acquired by different partners and that can not be recovered now due to lack of technical facilities.

This project is supported by the European Regional Development Fund, the Centre Regional Council, the Loiret General Council and the Orleans Conurbation Community. It is carried by the cluster DREAM (Sustainability of Water Resources and Associates of the Environment).

Water Treatment

In 2011, Geo-Hyd is building a development project called Floc On Bio (for "organic floculation") in partnership with Ecologistique (green chemistry formulation) an SME in the Centre region, and two research laboratories, the Bureau of Geological and Mining Research [Bureau de Recherche Géologique et Minière (BRGM)] and the International Centre for Research on Water and the Environment [Centre International de Recherche Sur l'Eau et l'Environnement (CIRSEE)] of Suez Environment.

Flocculants are polymers that trap solids suspended in water. As a result their use is common in industrial and collective sewage treatment. Today synthetic flocculants from the petroleum industry are the most widely used in France and Europe. These synthetic flocculants are not biodegradable and are made from a commodity considered toxic by the REACH classification.

The aim of project Floc On Bio is to develop new biodegradable flocculants alternative to bioresistant synthetic flocculants. The formulations of these bioproducts will be made from polymers of natural origin. The R&D project is organized into several lots ranging from laboratory testing of pre-identified bioproducts to the formalization of commercial products, through testing of industrial pilot sites.

Accompanied by the cluster DREAM, Floc On Bio is a debutante project amongst the new laureates of the 2011 call for eco-industry projects.

Modelling of pollutants transfer

In 2012, a tool for assessment of the transfer of pesticides to water resources, Phyto'Scope, is being co-developed with Footways (quantitative estimation of risk of transfer of pesticides) an SME in the Centre region and Lyonnaise des Eaux-Suez Environnement (Centre Delegation).

This tool which presents the originality of coupling models usually reserved exclusively for soil, the unsaturated zone of the subsoil and the aquifer saturated zone, will be applied to the Orleans city catchment supply area.

Phyto'Scope, applied to the Val d'Orleans, is to meet the following objectives:

In general, the transfer of pesticides to Val waters can be simulated on the basis of changes in practice and planning. Thus, "Phyto'Scope" has the ambition to be a real tool for decision support to planners and local managers.
